Today our Boulan Buddies came to visit for the second time and instead of going into the individual Kinderplus classrooms we combined together in the cafeteria to work on a project. The kiddos made a really cute owl are project. The students used a brown paper bag for the body and then had to cut circles and triangles out of squares. This was a little tricky for some kiddos! Our buddies assisted us throughout the project and helped us create some cute owl creations. Our owls are on display in the kindergarten hallway.

Reader's Workshop
Today we learned in Reader's Workshop that there are 2 ways to read a book.
1. You can read the words.
2. You can read the pictures.
We practiced reading books at our table. We also talked about what it looked liked and sounded like when you read the 2 different ways. We learned whether you are reading the words or the pictures you are thinking about the story. They are so SMART!Please ask your child tonight which way they chose to read during Reader's Workshop.

IPAD'S Arrive at Bemis
Today was a very exciting day because our Kindergartners were able to experiment on the new Ipad's that Bemis received as a the result of a bond that was passed about 5 years. The last of the money was put towards purchasing 1 class set of them per elementary school. We were very excited to get to test them our with our buddies yesterday. The Ipad's are going to be a wonderful tool that will be available for all grades. Last year I passed on an interesting article from the Wall Street Journal regarding handwriting and how tools such as the Tablet, Ipad, Droids, etc were giving practicing handwriting a boost. I have attached the link. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704631504575531932754922518.html Wall Street Journal Handwriting Article
Yesterday we mainly just explored with our buddies in Mr. Cottone's class. I know that many of the students have had practice already on Mom and Dad's at home.

Jog-a-thon
We had a beautiful day at the Jog-a-thon today! Thank you so much to all of the families that came out to cheer on the kiddos! They were soooooooo excited to run! We started at our starting line with some stretching exercises led by our Boulan Buddies and then we were off to the races! We had a few skinned knees, but overall we had tons of fun! After the race we enjoyed an apple snack on the playground. Remember to have your child turn in their pledges and pledge forms next week.
